The Porsche 996 was the first water-cooled 911 and it generated and continues to generate controversy. It is definitely a love-in-or-hate-it proposition. The car is powerful, fast, and handles very well. It is well built and solid — with the possible exception of the materials used on the interior. However, a small percentage of these cars have experienced catastrophic breakdowns resulting from a failure of its intermediate shaft bearing. Porsche has settled a class-action brought on behalf of Porsche owners of the affected cars, but some people complain that not all affected Porsches were included in the class. In any event, a person planning to purchase this car should determine whether or not the car has had remedial action taken with the intermediate shaft bearing and, if not, factor that into the price. ( i did that and it done by Porsche along with the clutch and throw out bearing). There are fixes for the IMS issue and, indeed, cars that are run regularly and do not sit don’t seem as likely to experience the problem. In this writer’s opinion, the issues only have the effect of making the car more affordable for those who want to own and drive one. I had the IMS REPLACED when I purchased the car as a preventive measure. Also had Porsche do the 30k complete service because of the low miles.

This car is 100% stock, all original paint and interior.

That being said there is a company in CA. that sells a kit to install a modern navigation, XM, Apple play radio. Based on your pars stock radio he makes a custom harness, so it is truly plug and play. There is one piece of plastic you have to cut, he gives you the part number and suggests that you buy it on Ebay and preserve the original which I did. I was a few hour install and since I'm spoiled now I have my XM and won't get lost. (sometimes when you are out for a nice drive in western NJ you can loose your way.... no fears now). Of course I have saved every part so it can be returned to stock. No wires were cut or spliced and no holes were made anywhere.

Additional photos will be posted in the spring.

Fun car for a summer drive or going out to dinner.
